Everyone loves toddlers. Well most people do. Even when they say the dumbest embarrassing things. Even when they do the most irritating things, most of us don't decide we hate them. Most of us don't decide that we should abandon them or give them up for adoption.
We love toddlers. Why? Because they're family. Even the toddlers of other people whom you don't know. Even kids in other countries. Society seems to have an unwritten agreement to tolerate all the nonsense that comes out of their mouths, or the crap that they do every day. All children are part of the greater human family and most sensible adults seem to recognize that.
Similarly, instead of beating our dogs and cats when they do something silly, we take videos of them and post them online! Of course some people do neglect and abuse their dogs, kids and cats, but that's just plain wrong. It's not the right thing to do. It's not their fault that they do the things they do. They're just children, puppies and kittens. It's their job.
Over the holidays many of us will have that annual face to face encounter with some crazy uncle who says a lot of stupid shit. You know, the homophobic, sexist, xenophobic comments that seem to ooze out after the first couple of egg-nogs. But should we hate our 'old-fashioned' crazy Uncle Donald, or Uncle Ben or Uncle Ted? No of course not. And why not? Because these crazy uncles are still part of the family.
The human family should love every other member of the human family. Love and compassion for kids, relatives and pets, no matter how much crazy stuff they say or do.
There are many strong arguments about the use of discipline and corrective measures for these kids and pets, and maybe even the crazy uncles.
Discipline them all you like, but don't scream at them, hate them or use violence against them. Because they're family. There's one important message in this particular holiday blog. JUST DON'T PUT THEM IN CHARGE OF ANYTHING IMPORTANT. If little Joey or friendly Fido were to run for office, you'd laugh at the notion. Similarly, if one of your crazy uncles ran for office, the idea of voting for him would certainly be a joke. Love everyone for we are all the same. This Universe: it's all of us. During your biological game however, don't put a Consciousness in a position of control if it lacks certain key faculties. You know, like diplomacy, leadership, resourcefulness, honesty, integrity and trustworthiness. Find out more in the forthcoming book, digitally launching on Dec 23, 2015.
